OHR YERUSHALAYIM SHUL, SALFORD

2010-09-03

November 98 heralded the inauguration of “Kehila Kedosha Ohr Yerushalayim” under the auspices and guidance of Rabbi Berel Cohen Shlita with Shabbos Tefilos attended by 18 individuals in the hall of Broughton Jewish Primary School, Salford.

With rapid growth in member numbers, a more prominent location was secured in December 2001, with relocation to the Beis Menachem hall, Salford.

This facilitated the ability to meet the growing demand from the community with the commencement of weekday services.

Further expansion, in excess of 120 families, necessitated Ohr Yerushalayim in offering more tangible community style services including a “meals on wheels” service, children’s activities, as well as ongoing Shiurim for men and social events for the women.  This phenomenal growth meant once again the Shul outgrew its existing premises compelling permanent purpose built grounds.

A suitable plot of land on Bury New Road, Salford was acquired with financial collaboration from the Federation of Synagogues.  This resulted in a significant building project to see the community relocated to its own purpose built complex.

The dream materialised in May 2010 and was honoured with an uplifting Siyum in which the complete Talmud of Shass had been learnt collectively by Shul members throughout the building project coinciding with a grand opening ceremony of the new building, overwhelmingly attended by vast sections of the wider Manchester community.
